The painting Trade
On certain dates in the year, presentations about the painting trade take place in the manor house from Solms. Traditional painting and design techniques for restoring surfaces on half-timbered houses, furnishings and other items are shown.
The presentation mainly focuses on making and using paints made of linseed oil, chalk, casein and distemper and showing old painting techniques using historic tools and devices. For example, these include dabbing and wrapping techniques, stencilling, including making stencils, rolling with a patterned roller, painting wood and marble and gilding.
