Insights: Our Hessenpark Open-air Museum
The Hessenpark Open-Air Museum celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024. This milestone serves as the occasion for a new permanent exhibition in which the museum itself becomes the focus: “Insights: Our Hessenpark Open-Air Museum.” Who decides which buildings are set up in the open-air museum, and how do they get there? What insider tips are there for visiting the museum? And what exactly do the people who work at the museum do? Visitors usually only see what is displayed in the exhibitions, what happens at events, what can be seen on the grounds, and what is reported in the media. However, for many tasks, the museum for everyday culture doesn’t even need to be open.
The new exhibition provides answers to many questions about Hessenpark, exciting information about the goals, tasks, work, and history of the open-air museum, as well as insights into the daily work of the staff. The display cases are partially stocked in unusual ways. While there is also a cross-section of objects from the museum’s collection to see, the core of the exhibition focuses on the tools and equipment that the museum staff use in their daily work. Additionally, fascinating objects from the museum’s history will be on display.
The exhibition is housed in the building from Gemünden (Wohra).
