Trendelburg – from the province into the open air museum
From Northern Hesse into the Taunus
Reopened after four years of renovation, the storehouse from Trendelburg is home to the permanent exhibition “From the domain to the Open Air Museum” since 2021. The exhibition explores the history and the special features of the 40 metre long and 14 metre wide building.
A total of four sections deal with the construction and use of the storehouse as well as the town and castle of Trendelburg. The stable on the ground floor could hold up to 2.000 animals. Grain and other duties in kind submitted by the district’s villages were stored on the three floors, which now serve as exhibition rooms. In the 19th century, the Kurhessian administration was relocated from Trendelburg to Hofgeismar and the storehouse was leased.
