Tower Clocks
Coupled with information on the history of the subject, the unique collection and the tower clock workshop offer a rare opportunity to gain a comprehensive picture of the importance of tower clocks.
The collection in the House from Laubach consists of tower clocks from the 19th and 20th centuries. Here you can get up close and learn how a tower clock works and even see some clockwork in motion. The building that housed the workshop of the Ritzert family of clockmakers from Groß-Umstadt has been reconstructed close by. The original building, where all clock parts were cast and assembled, dates back to 1862/63. These days, the workshop is furnished with old tools and machines from around 1920, offering a vivid impression of this unique craft. You can also admire four Ritzert-made clocks, as the most extensive Ritzert collection to date – including a grandfather clock and the last tower clock mechanism built in 1919 – is open to visitors.
The exhibition can be found in the House from Laubach (market square).
