Taunus Forest Glassworks
This permanent exhibition presents glass production in the Taunus mountain range between 1450 and 1700. The finds and findings from several production sites, which were retrieved and scientifically researched by volunteers of the Kulturkreis Glashütten e. V., assisted by a freelance glass researcher and staff of the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments Hesse paint a vivid picture of the artistic and technical sophistication of late medieval and early modern Taunus glass production. The full-scale reconstruction of a glass furnace based on excavations of the glassworks An der Emsbach-Hütte and the miniature model of a glassworks with a wooden superstructure are particularly impressive. Vessels, such as the cabbage stalk beakers or berry prunt studded glasses as well as an impressively large crown glass pane are further surprises the exhibition has in store for the visitor.
