Goldsmiths

On entering the goldsmith workshop located in the house from Messel, you will immediately see the traditional workbench, where many old tools are displayed. In spite of all the technical advances in our lives, the goldsmith’s craft remained mainly the same; many tools and machines used today had already been used in days gone by.

Not only are custom designs created in the goldsmith workshop but orders, repairs and remodelling are also carried out. Visitors can watch trained goldsmiths at work and ask questions about the materials used and their working methods. All the steps involved from melting the metal to polishing the finished piece of jewellery take place in the goldsmiths’ workshop. From start to finish, the product undergoes milling, hammering, filing and soldering; sometimes you can also observe the engraving process or how a precious stone is set.

As a rule, the workshop is open Thursday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
