Restoring
Our restorer does not simply rub off the paint on a piece of furniture but carefully removes individual layers with solvents, cotton buds and a scalpel. This helps him understand how the appearance of the furniture has changed over time. Nowadays, the main objective is to preserve all the colour versions. He uses traditional, non-hazardous substances such as linseed oil and shellac to carry out his work. Visitors can watch the restorer at work on selected dates. Furthermore there are talks on various aspects of preserving historical monuments as part of the series of events entitled “In dialogue with the restorer” (in German). Information about the topics and the dates can be found in the events calendar.
