Barn from Erda
Built: 1829
Dismantled: 1979
Reassembled: 1980/81
At its last location (the barn was translocated twice), the Barn from Erda was part of a four-sided farmstead together with the Gatehouse from Erda (8b). The barn rises from a trizonal floor plan with a central threshing floor and lateral stable sections. The barn gate is protected from inclement weather by a canopy roof with a dovecot.
Lintel, door posts and wall plate timbers on the farmyard side are all decorated with painted carvings of high quality. Based on historic evidence, the stylised blossoms and tendrils were painted red, yellow and green. The inscription above the barn door translates as: This house was built with the help of God by Peter Brück and his wife Elisa. The truss was set up on 19 May 1829. The master builder was Georg Waeber and Peter Schupp, from Muldersbach. A further inscription above the right-hand stable section translates as: God’s grace and troth, are renewed every morning both.
