Wagon Shed
New Construction
Built: 2004
This wagon shed houses mostly historic tools which were used in viticulture. The grapes, once harvested, were carried to the press in wooden panniers, where they were crushed in grape mills. Afterwards, they had to be pressed in the wine press. The Open Air Museum has a great variety of old wine presses (horizontal screw presses), which employed mechanical transmission to increase the pressure used to extract the juice. Wooden horizontal screw presses were used into the early 20th century, when they began to be replaced by hydraulic metal presses.
