Barn from Altheim
Built: 1749/50
Dismantled: 1988
Reassembled: 1996/97
Together with the Barn from Mengerskirchen, the timber-framed Barn from Altheim in southern Hesse forms the beginning of an urban-style barn lane that was planned to conclude the west side of the museum’s market square towards the Central Hesse Ensemble. The barn’s construction appears to be inconsistent. Whilst the roof structure is segmented into three zones, the layout of the probably later installed stone stable and threshing floor is bizonal. The brick infills are based on historic findings. The sandstone lintels of the door and windows on the ground floor are topped by brick relieving arches. The Open Air Museum’s Visitor Service uses this small barn as an office and storage space.
